Fixed wood routers are best for making joints and trimming edges. They can be easily fixed on a router table and you can adjust it according to the routing requirements. That is why they are more accurate as compared to the plunge routers.

Plunge routers work well when you need to work away from the edges. You can take the router above the wood material, then lower it down perpendicularly and accurately depending on the outcome you want. It is better for engraving templates, mortices, and making flutes.

User reviews

We talked to several users of Bosch wood router and came to know that it completes the job without making much noise, it is easy and convenient to use. Some of them complained about the wooden handles on the fixed base as they prefer a rubber grip. None of them raised concern over its routing capability and accuracy. It is recommended by all of them.

Users of DeWalt wood router praised its comfortable grip that gives complete control. Few regular users surprisingly marked it down on durability as the motor burnt after few projects.

Some of them also faced problems with its variable speed control. They recommend it only because of the power and comfort while using.

Which one should you by?

Are you a professional who needs accuracy, easy of work and fast results? Or you are a house owner who just wants to work on a limited number of projects?

If you say yes to the first question, then Bosch is the ideal choice. It has a better motor, accurate plunger, better build and it is reliable. Interruptions like burning motors and slow cutting will never arise with this model, which may hamper your work. Even after reading this post, if you face problems then what is the motive of our research anyway.

DeWalt model mentioned in the post is only for light users and individuals who will take the router out only for the furnishing of small materials. DW618PK comes with a three-year warranty, so even if you will face any problem working on household projects, you will get assistance from the manufacturers.

Best value for money

Bosch 161EVSPK and DeWalt DW618PK, both are convenient to use. They are not only good, but they are manufactured to curate perfection on any material.

However, as you see that 161EVSPK has a better motor, higher RPM, but lacks the dust hood. It also performs at a higher voltage and that is why it is faster than DW618PK.

DeWalt DW618PK is a budget-friendly tool working at comparatively low voltage and hence saves a lot of money. It has better dust collection, but less RPM and a motor with less power.

At last, we can say that 161EVSPK is a clear winner. If you are professional, then choose the Bosch model and ignore its initial or operating cost. But, if you have a budget constraint, then go for DW618PK, but only as a hobbyist or DIYer as it is not recommended for industrial use.
